Most rooms do not need to be torn apart; they need the right fabrics and the right finishing pieces, chosen with a confident eye. That is what we do. Custom Fabric Creations is a St. Petersburg design studio and workroom focused on the soft side of interior design, the window treatments, drapery, upholstery, bedding, and textiles that decide how a room actually feels, backed by 25 years of experience and our own in-house fabrication since 2000.

It helps to be clear about what we are. We are not the firm you hire to move walls and redo plumbing. We are the studio you bring in to get the textiles and treatments right, the layer of a room that most determines whether it feels finished, and the layer most people find hardest to choose with confidence. We guide those decisions and then fabricate and install them ourselves.
The showroom comes to you: We bring the designer fabric library to your home, so every choice is made in your actual light, not a showroom’s.
Designer and decorator fabrics: Thousands of options through Kravet, Stout, Lee Jofa, and the houses they distribute.
Made in our own workroom: Drapery, upholstery, bedding, and treatments fabricated in-house, not subcontracted out.
A confident eye: 25 years of guiding St. Pete homeowners to choices they love and do not second-guess.

The In-Home Showroom: Why It Matters
A designer fabric can look like two different fabrics in two different rooms, because light changes everything, and Florida light especially. The afternoon sun through a west window, the cool glow of a north-facing room, the wall color already in place, all of it changes how a textile reads. That is why we bring the library to you rather than asking you to choose under showroom lighting and hope. You see the fabric on your wall, by your floor, in your light, next to the pieces you are keeping, and you decide with real information instead of a guess.
What We Design and Make
Our design work always resolves into real, made pieces, and we make all of them in-house:
- Custom drapery and curtains in designer fabrics, sized and sewn to your windows.
- Window shades and plantation shutters for light, heat, and privacy control.
- Custom blinds and cornices and valances to finish the window.
- Furniture reupholstery and custom banquettes to refresh and add seating.
- Custom bedding and pillows and the drapery hardware that carries it all.
Designing across all of these in one studio is what lets us carry a single fabric story through a whole room or home.
Designer and Decorator Fabrics
The fabric library is the heart of the studio. As an authorized dealer for Kravet and Stout, with access through Kravet to Lee Jofa, Brunschwig & Fils, GP & J Baker, and performance lines like Crypton, we can put thousands of designer and decorator fabrics in front of you, from heavy cotton velvets to unlined linen sheers to indoor-outdoor performance weaves. You can see the houses we carry on our brands page. Beyond selection, we advise: which fabrics wear well where, which suit Florida sun and humidity, and which are worth the splurge versus where to be practical.

Coordinating a Whole Room or Whole House
The biggest advantage of a single studio that designs and makes everything is coherence. When the drapery, the throw pillows, the reupholstered chair, the bedding, and the banquette cushions all come from one workroom, a fabric can repeat, a color can carry, and a palette can run through a space the way it does in a designed interior. Buying those pieces separately, each chosen in isolation, almost never adds up to the same result. We plan the room as a composition and then build the parts to match, which is why our clients so often come back room by room until the whole house relates.
Working With Designers and the Trade
We also serve as the workroom and product partner for interior designers and decorators across the St. Pete and Tampa area. If you are a designer who needs custom drapery, upholstery, bedding, or treatments fabricated and installed to spec, we are the local, accountable workroom behind the work. Reach out to talk through trade arrangements and timelines.
What Changes When the Soft Goods Are Right
It is easy to underestimate how much the textile layer carries a room, because it is the part you feel more than analyze. Walls and floors set the stage, but it is the drapery, the cushions, the bedding, and the upholstery that make a space feel warm, finished, and intentional, or leave it feeling bare no matter how good the bones are. That is the layer we specialize in, and getting it right tends to change a room more than people expect for the investment.
Consider a living room that already has good furniture and paint but never quite feels done. Add custom drapery in the right fabric and the windows finally read as part of the room instead of holes in the wall; the panels soften the hard surfaces, tame the harsh afternoon light, and pull a color up from the rug. Layer in a few well-made throw pillows and a reupholstered accent chair in a coordinating fabric, and suddenly the whole room relates. Nothing structural changed, but the space feels designed.
The same logic applies room by room. A bedroom transforms with a duvet, shams, and an upholstered headboard that share a palette. A breakfast nook becomes the heart of the house with a banquette in a performance fabric. A formal dining room earns its name with drapery and a cornice that frame the windows. None of it requires construction, and all of it is what we design and build. The reason to work with a single studio for this layer is that the pieces are chosen in relation to one another, so the room reads as one composition rather than a collection of separate good intentions.
Our In-House Workroom: Since 2000
Everything we design is made under one roof in West St. Petersburg, and has been since 2000. That is what separates a design conversation from a finished room: we do not hand your selections to a distant factory and hope, we fabricate them ourselves, control the quality, and install them with our own crew. You can see finished projects in our gallery and read the story behind the studio on our about page.
How the Process Works
- Free in-home consultation. We bring the fabric library and ideas to your home, look at the space and light, and guide your choices.
